There is a collection of vessels made of metal and ceramics, a small bronze object and marble sculpture from the ancient Montana. The Historical Museum- Montana was founded in 1953. In nearly five decades, a tremendous amount of work has been done for collecting, conducting scientific research, and educating people about historical heritage. From 1968 to 1994, continuous archeological excavations were carried out. The researches did not only provide new evidences for the development of the town through the Roman age, but they also reconstrucuted the life of settlers from the stone-copper age to the end of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom in the 14th century; those people had settled in the area around today's Montana.
Researches of the material and spiritual life on the territory of Montana are carried out through years. These days the museum has rich collections of artifacts. The following departments have been formed: “Archeology,” “Ethnography,” “History of Bulgaria XV-XIX Centuries,” “Modern History,” “Latest History,” “Funds,” “Public Relations and Advertising,” and “Historical Monuments.”
The efforts of the experts are directed towards studying the prehistoric, ancient, and the Medieval period of the region, the economic and demographic progress during the 18th and 19th centuries, and the political and cultural life in the recent times. |
