Museum is situated on the central square of the town, 500 meters west to the central bus station. Bus and trolley-bus run between the railway station and the centre of the town.

Town Information

Town of Haskovo originates as a settlement during Neolithic age-VI millennium B.C. During X-th century it's been transforming into a big medieval town. Close to the city alongside village of Alexandrovo is situated an unique thracian tomb with mural paintings from IV-th century B.C. Besides Historical Museum- Haskovo, the tourists may visit expositions such as “Town's Way of Life from the End of XVIII Century" and "Arhangel Mihail Church" with unique icons.

The Historical Museum- Haskovo has two exposition halls, an exhibition hall, lapidary hall, and inner yard.In the ethnographic exposition, typical native people's rites, dresses, adornments, fabrics, and crafts are presented. Transition from traditional country to the urban way of life is retraced at the “Paskaleva Kashta”- a cultural monument of national significance. National-liberation fights, educational works, fights for self-dependent bulgarian church, and church plate are exhibited in “Revival and National-Liberation Fights” hall.

The beginning of organized museum work was initiated during December 1927 with establishment of the Archaeological Committee towards community centre “Zaria.” In 1929 Ministry of National Enlightenment approved Committee and statute-book which gives an official statute of it. The first exhibition-archaeological opened in 1930 at one of the premises of the community centre with an organizer Ivan Karagiaurov- a teacher. At the end of 1951, it was established as a state historical museum. Since 1975 the museum is located in the present building and started it's expositions in 1982.
