On an area of 2000 sq. meters, exhibitions of the following museum sections are presented:

. Bulgarian Lands- 15th to 20th Centuries
. Ethnography
The Museum has its own modern building in which there is a highly professional exposition. Amongst its 116,000 artifacts, a special attention is paid to the unique collection of cult figures of the pre-historc period, materials from Thracian times- armaments of a Thracian soldier, marble tablets with images, ceramic lamps with gladiator scenes, ceramic masks, medical instruments, coins from a Thracian tribe dating the 5th-4th century B.C.; collections of cult gravestones and pottery, early Bulgarian ornaments, arts, ceramics from Melnik, papers from the Renaissance, a unique ethnographical collection of textile, costumes, ceramics, metal, and wood from the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. There are documents of high importance including 24 letters of Gotze Delchev and personal items that belonged to the leaders of the national liberation movement.
The Museum has 23 pictures of Zlatio Boiyadjiev, 86 pictures of Vladimir Dimitrov- masters of artwork, and a thousand of arts from Middle Ages to modern period. |

The Historical Museum of Blagoevgrad was established in 1952. It has an impressive structure: Departments of Archaeology, Ethnography, Bulgarian Lands in 15th - Early 20th Century, Modern and Contemporary History, Science, Arts, Cultural Monuments, and Connections with the Society Fund. It also houses a laboratory for conservation and restoration, a modern photo laboratory, and a library which has more than 16,000 volumes.
In order to popularize the national beauty of the Pirin region, the Museum built a center for nature protection of the Rila National Park.
The Historical Museum of Blagoevgrad continues to preserve the history and the everlasting beauty of the Pirin region. |
